Abstract
Dia’s relations with Russia in the post-Cold War period have been fraught with ambiguity and uncertainty. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, there was ambiguity in India’s foreign policy regarding the direction of Russian policy. The nature of global politics and the structure of power equations posed a serious challenge to nation-states whether they would move closer to the leader of the unipolar world or not. India was no exception. India faced many difficulties and challenges in the early 1990s in finding alternative ways to revive its collapsed economy and embrace globalization. Bilateral trade is relatively low, but Russia is India’s largest arms supplier. Both countries have strong strategic relations and military engagement. Moreover, Russia plays a significant role in India’s civilian nuclear program. India-Russia relations are multidimensional and complex on some issues. This article aims to critically examine the relational equations between New Delhi and Moscow by asking three questions: Why does India continue its relations with Russia? What are the areas of mutual relations between India and Russia? What role do China and America factors play in India-Russia relations? The research method in this study is descriptive-analytical. Given the nature of the subject under study, information collection was based on the library method. The evolving geopolitical landscape, especially the post-Ukrainian conflicts, requires India and Russia to adapt their strategies and at the same time strengthen their partnership to channel external pressures.
